In this weeks Family Information Service newsletter there is information on how to return to teaching, an exciting new Warwickshire Health Visiting website to support expectant and new parents, activities from ILEAP and much more!

Deadline for school admissions

A final reminder that there are just a few more days left to apply for Reception and Junior School places. The 15 January deadline applies to children born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018 and any children currently in Year 2 at an infant school who want to move to a junior school. Find out more and apply.

Volunteer with Empowering Families

The Empowering Families Service matches parents in need of a helping hand with a local volunteer in Warwickshire who can support them and provide guidance. Could you help out?

Our Warwickshire volunteers support parents for 1-2 hours on a weekly basis, where they empower them to feel in control of their situation and gain the tools and knowledge necessary to improve their circumstances. Volunteers understand, encourage and support parents to address the difficulties and barriers within their family.

Activities for children with additional needs

ILEAP is a Stratford up on Avon based charity, who provide community-based leisure activities for anyone with additional needs aged 4 years and over. The inclusive leisure activities are chosen by the ILEAP members and take place in the heart of the local community throughout Warwickshire.

Activities include day trips, weekends away, cookery clubs, youth clubs, music and dance sessions, arts and crafts clubs, social nights, pamper clubs, lads club, bowling, sports, cycle rides, bhangra dancing, African drumming, swimming, cinema visits, parties, country walks. Taking part helps to build confidence, raise self-esteem, reduces isolation and promotes independence.

ILEAP currently also have a weekly football session on a Wednesday for children aged 4 – 12 years.

Come back to teaching in 2022

Warwickshire residents who have previously worked as teachers are being encouraged to return to the profession to support our children’s educational recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) is backing a Department for Education (DfE) initiative to encourage former teachers to return to the classroom to help ensure that children and young people do not lose any more of their access to face-to-face education.

A New website from Warwickshire Health Visiting

Warwickshire Health Visiting has launched a new website which includes lots of useful articles to support parents and carers on their journey to having a baby through to a child’s stages of development.

The website also includes local information about the health visiting service and offer, information about other local services, groups to support families and much more.

Share your views on family health programmes

Researchers from Coventry University, together with Warwickshire County Council and Connect for Health/Compass, want to hear from parents and carers about their views on family health programmes and the National Child Measurement Programme. Parents and carers in Nuneaton & Bedworth with children in reception through to year 6 are invited to complete a short online survey.

Share your views on Warwickshire bus services

Following feedback from residents last year, Warwickshire County Council are working on a 3-year plan to provide more frequent and reliable buses, cheaper tickets and a better integrated network of routes. To ensure the new plan will be successful in making it easier for people to use the bus network, we are once again asking people to give us feedback on our plans and priorities.

So, if you use the bus regularly or perhaps you are someone who might be persuaded to switch from your car to the bus if it was easier to do so, then please share your views with us by 1 February 2022 at the link below.

Supporting the county’s care leavers

Over the past year, Warwickshire House Project has continued to support young people who are leaving care across the county to gain independence and move into a property of their own.

The project, commissioned by Warwickshire County Council, has been running in Warwickshire for over three years. It offers support to care experienced young people to move into their own home and to develop the life skills they need to live independently and look after themselves. The House Project has already supported over 35 care leavers across the county to live independently since it began.

Adult learners urged to improve their learning power

Those looking to learn a new language, progress their current skills or do something they’ve always dreamed of, are being urged to look at what’s on offer through Warwickshire Adult Community Learning (ACL).

ACL provides a high-quality range of accessible courses for adults across the county, which range from Functional Skills English and Maths to languages, arts, crafts and so much more.  Some of the courses lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

Courses are starting in January 2022 in a variety of subjects and enrolments are open now.
