Twinning

Founded in 1982 the Kenilworth Twinning Association exists to foster links, mainly on a personal level, between Kenilworth and its European twin towns. This is done mainly by exchange visits between the towns, usually lasting about four or five days. Members of the visiting groups stay with host families in the town, and many lasting friendships have been made that way. Some communal excursions, meals and cultural activities are laid on to add to the enjoyment of the visit. Participants pay for their own travel, plus a contribution to activities of about £30 each, but otherwise it’s all free for the visitors.

Our Twin Towns are:

France – Bourg-la-Reine (since 1982) which is a pleasant suburb in the Paris conurbation and is well positioned for visits to central Paris, and for other places of historic interest such as Fontainebleau or Versailles. For more information go to www.bourg-la-reine.fr.

Germany – Eppstein (since 1994) which nestles in the foothills of the Taunus mountains, being about 25 km from Frankfurt. Like Kenilworth it has a ruined castle which is often used for outdoor events when we visit. The valley of the Rhine and several historic towns are within easy visiting distance. Italy – Roccalumera (since 2020)  which is a small town on the north-east coast of Sicily. The island of Sicily not only has a beautiful landscape but is steeped in historical heritage and interesting buildings. For more information go to www.comune.roccalumera.me.it.

Visits to Bourg-la-Reine and Roccalumera are usually every other year, with visits from them to Kenilworth taking place in between. Visits to and from Eppstein are slightly less frequent. The KTA organises regular social events throughout the year for its members (meals, skittles evenings, quizzes etc) at which funds are also raised – the Association is self-supporting and is not funded by the Town Council.

We in the KTA feel that, in this post-Brexit world maintaining relationships with other European towns and their citizens is more important than ever and we are always very happy to welcome new members to our Association.
