Improved support to help Warwickshire’s smokers

Smokers in Warwickshire who are looking to quit have access to an improved stop smoking support offer with the introduction of the new Government ‘Swap to Stop’ programme.

Swap to Stop offers smokers over the age of 18 access to support to quit with the help of vape ‘quit kits’ and access to 12 weeks of behavioural support and stop smoking treatments.

Can you suggest a location for electric vehicle charging points in Warwickshire?

Last year, we were allocated £3.3m from the first round of the government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Capital Fund.

Based on current estimates, this funding will allow for the delivery of up to 1,400 charging sockets at both on-street and in car park locations.

To deliver on this, we’re asking you to nominate possible locations which would benefit from an electric vehicle charging point.

Rogue Builder Sentenced to Five Years Imprisonment

A rogue builder has been sentenced to five years imprisonment following a successful prosecution carried out by our Trading Standards team.

Adam Jones offered roofing, gardening and general building work and targeted residents living in Warwickshire, Coventry and further afield.

He traded under several names including Global Roofing, Rainbow Roofing, and Drives and Landscape Gardening.

WCC Cabinet Update: 23 January 2024

On Tuesday 23 January, our Cabinet discussed the financial management of the authority ahead of the February Full Council meeting, which will focus on the 2024/25 budget setting.

The first paper outlined the forecast financial position of the organisation at the end of 2023/24. It noted a forecast net service overspend of £7.281m and outlined how this would be addressed for the end of the financial year.

Car dealer fined for selling unroadworthy vehicle to Stratford-upon-Avon resident

The car, which was purchased by a Stratford-upon-Avon resident, had been advertised as ‘Drives Great’ and ‘Inspected and approved by authorised garage’.

The new owner complained to Trading Standards after taking the vehicle to a local garage who told him the car was unroadworthy.

Warwickshire cyclists clock an impressive 25,000 miles during December event

In December, Warwickshire cyclists were out in force as part of Love to Ride’s Winter Wheelies campaign which encourages safe winter cycling.

In total, 269 riders from 27 workplaces took part in Warwickshire and logged a collective distance of 25,054 miles over 2,301 individual trips. That’s more than once around the entire circumference of the earth (24,901 miles)!

Two Warwickshire riders were also lucky enough to win prizes during the event, both scooping limited edition Love To Ride t-shirts.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service supports Register My Appliance Week 2024

According to a new survey conducted for the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances, almost a third of UK adults never or rarely register their large appliances.

With an estimated 133 million fridges, washing machines, and ovens in use in UK homes, this could mean more than 40 million appliances across the country are unregistered.

Opinions sought on reuse shops and facilities at the county’s recycling centres

The online survey, which closes on 4 February 2024, asks visitors of the reuse shops about their experience of donating to or buying from the shops, and seeks views on the running of the recycling facilities and the appointment booking system.

Hate Crime is any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice, based upon one or more identifying factors.

PMHD was started in 2022 by stem4, a charity that supports young people to build positive mental health.

The charity aims to encourage understanding and awareness of the importance of parent mental health and its potential impact on the whole family system.

We are reminding residents of our commitment to preventing slavery and human trafficking in all that we do.

Last year, we approved our updated Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking statement, which re-states its commitment to using our powers, influence and responsibilities to prevent and act against modern slavery.
