Kenilworth Town Council has confirmed its commitment to its two longstanding twinning partnerships and also announced that a new partnership with Roccalumera in Sicily.
At the Town Council meeting at the end of February Councillors agreed that the Mayor should write to write to the Civic Leaders of Bourg-la-Reine in France and Eppstein in Germany to reassure them that, despite Brexit, Kenilworth remains committed to developing its twinning relationships. Councillors also agreed, in response to a request from Kenilworth Twinning Association, to upgrade the previous friendship link with Roccalumera to a formal twinning status.
Kenilworth Mayor Cllr Alison Firth said ‘for many years, thanks to the work of members of Kenilworth Twinning Association, Kenilworth has had excellent links in Europe. I’m delighted that Councillors confirmed their continued support for these links. The Council looks forward to welcoming to Kenilworth a group of residents from Roccalumera in late July.’
Welcoming the announcements, Tony Jones, Chairman of Kenilworth Twinning Association, said ‘this is excellent news and it seems very appropriate at this time that Kenilworth should want to show its commitment to close relationships with friends in Europe.’
