What are you looking for?

Dear Kenilworthians

I wanted to reach out to you all and send my love during these challenging and isolating and uncertain times. COVID-19 has brought many of us much concern for our own physical and mental health and that of our loved ones near and far. Our regular routines have been thrown out, businesses have ceased trading, including mine, and now we are all on lock down…it feels so surreal.

However, out of this horrible situation our community has once again shone brightly in the face of adversity. People are looking after each other, checking in on each other. There is a lot of love in our less polluted air!

And I am so proud of our town and the way we have come together to create the Kenilworth Covid-19 Support Group. Our Churches, Charitable Organisations, Police, Community Centres, Local Health Services and Businesses have joined forces to care for our wonderful Kenilworth Community and now we have a growing network of splendid people who are volunteering their time in all sorts of capacities!

This is a time that could be used for personal reflection, realising how much good there is in ourselves, our society and in humans and whilst we need to remain physically distant from each other we will become more socially close as a community and perhaps get to know ourselves a little better too.

It’s important that we look after ourselves and be gentle to our mind and body. This could be a chance to do some of the things you wouldn’t usually have time to do. I have almost made my first ever candle! I shall miss my job and my wonderful pupils though. Sad times.

As a town we can play our part by following the advice given by the government and the NHS, do our best to support each other and make ends meet. But since our movements are so rigorously restricted perhaps we should take some of this enforced alone time to relax and enjoy the beginning of Spring on our wonderful planet Earth.

I’ve had some interesting conversations about the potential social and environmental impact of the pandemic. My friend told me she felt like this is the dream of the planet I found that a beautifully provoking, existential thought in these strange times.
