This weekend Kenilworth Lions, Bill Birkett and Ivan Pointon, are delivering an ambulance from Kenilworth to Ukraine, in a convoy of vehicles, organised by Dawid Kozlowski of ‘Aid for Ukraine’ in Leamington Spa. Euro Car Parts are kindly sponsoring the cost of delivery.
In the month following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Kenilworth Lions Club decided to donate one Saturday’s income from our charity furniture store to the UKs DEC — Disasters Emergency Committee. Income at our charity furniture store in Farmer Ward Road, Kenilworth, on that Saturday in March 2022, was approximately £5000, thanks to the generosity of the people of Kenilworth. This amount is far in excess of our normal income on a Saturday morning.
Kenilworth Lions Club held a similar event during 2023, after the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine and approximately £3600 was donated to ‘Medics to Medics’ in Kenilworth, to purchase, first aid kits, medical equipment and medicines.
It is understood that in the first year of the war the UN recorded 23,000 civilian casualties in Ukraine. The Ukrainian medical infrastructure continues to be systematically targeted and we understand nearly 500 ambulances were lost during the last year alone. Because of this, Ukraine needs ambulances not only to transport patients, but to transport medical personnel and medical supplies, to war affected areas.
Following discussions with Dawid Kozlowski of ‘Aid for Ukraine’ in Leamington Spa, the purchase of the ambulance was mooted. It was decided to again, hold a sale to aid this purchase and on the morning of Saturday the 13 April, the Kenilworth public exceeded our dreams and helped us to raise nearly, another £5000. This money was further added to from our charity funds and the ambulance purchased.
The vehicle is now on its journey to Ukraine, loaded with various medical supplies to be used over there.

The Ukrainian flag will be raised at Jubilee House on Saturday 24 August at 9am to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day.
