Proposed shared use cycle route along the Warwick Road, road hump at junction with Newey Drive and zebra crossing near Rouncil Lane, Kenilworth

Warwickshire County Council have released proposals to develop a new cycle route along Warwick Road including a zebra crossing on a road hump near Rouncil Lane and a priority crossing on a road hump at Newey Drive.  These connections are part of Warwickshire County Council’s Active Travel programme, which aims to make it easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle for local journeys.

The proposed scheme would provide:

  • a continuous shared footway/cycle track along Warwick Road between Rouncil Lane and Wilkshire Road by converting or widening sections of existing footway, verge and carriageway space. This includes a continuous section across the entrance for Kenilworth Cricket Club and Kenilworth Bridge Club.
  • a zebra crossing with parallel cycle crossing across Warwick Road just south of the junction with Rouncil Lane.  This would be placed on a road hump to help slow down vehicles, and therefore replace the two speed cushions currently at this location. A new shared footway and cycle track will link around the corner of Rouncil Lane to Suncliffe Drive.
  • an inline priority crossing for pedestrians and cyclists at the junction of Newey Drive and Warwick Road. This would be placed on a road hump, to slow down vehicles and provide a level surface for walking, wheeling and cycling.

Scheme plans, a legal notice and a statement of the Council’s reasons for the proposals can be viewed online at https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/cycling/cycle-route-schemes-consultation/11.

Any objections or representations to the proposals, which must be in writing and specify the grounds on which they are made, should be emailed to activetravel@warwickshire.gov.uk or addressed to Alison Kennedy, Communities Directorate, Shire Hall Post Room, Northgate Street, Warwick, CV34 4SP using the subject “Warwick Road Cycle Route, Kenilworth”.  These must be received by 28th September 2026.
