Enjoy new benefits to Stratford Park and Ride this summer including free parking, extended bus times, and great value tickets

From Saturday 22 July to Sunday 17 September, Warwickshire County Council is improving the Park and Ride’s service offer to ensure that everyone – from dog owners and couples to families and tourist groups – can make the most of this easy and relaxing journey into Stratford-upon-Avon town centre.

There is only until Sunday 30 July to give views on Warwickshire’s refreshed education strategy!

The survey will close on Sunday 30 July.

The council is currently reviewing its existing strategy and seeking views on whether the proposed principles and priorities are the right ones to inform the direction of travel on education until 2030.

News from meeting of Warwickshire County Council July 25

The Council was asked to consider the Annual Report of the Audit and Standards Committee, a cross party group which oversees the county’s financial management and governance arrangements.  Along with all reports carried out internally, an appendix highlighted an external report conducted by CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants) which scored Warwickshire’s internal audit team positively in all 23 categories.

Lias Line Improvement scheme takes an important step forward

Initially approved by Cabinet at its meeting of 13 July, the funding required the further approval of Full Council as it is in excess of £2million. This approval was given on 25 July 2023.

The Lias Line is part of the disused railway line that connects Rugby to Leamington Spa and Leamington Spa to Daventry. It is owned by Sustrans, a charity which promotes active travel opportunities and custodians of the National Cycle Network.

Get on your bikes to support National Cycle to Work Day 2023

Organised by Cyclescheme, National Cycle to Work Day is the UK’s biggest cycling commuting event and this year will take place on Thursday 3 August. The campaign has been running for eleven years and aims to encourage people all around the country to get on their bikes and get into work one of the best ways possible – on two wheels!

The day is an event for everyone, from people who have not been on a bike since their school days to committed cycle commuters.

British Empire Medals presented to local residents by Warwickshire’s Lord Lieutenant

The residents each received a British Empire Medal for serving their local communities by going ‘above and beyond’ to change the world around them for the better.

British Empire Medals (BEM) mark the exceptional contributions and service of people from across the UK. They recognise people who have made achievements in public life, committed themselves to serving and helping the UK, and who make life better for others by being outstanding at what they do.

Approval given to a new Local Transport Plan for Warwickshire

The LTP4 comprises the strategies that will be used to improve and manage transport in Warwickshire.

The LTP4, which has been produced following an extensive period of public consultation, will supersede its predecessor, LTP3, with new strategies to improve transport in Warwickshire, while reflecting the changing priorities and travel habits of residents and businesses. LTP4 forms the county’s overall transport strategy, comprising a core strategy and six key strategies, which will guide the development of transport and related policies in the county.

The Warwickshire House Project celebrates its five-year anniversary

The Warwickshire House Project was set up in Warwickshire in 2018 and, since then, has worked with 49 care leavers. The team works very closely with young people who are moving out of care to help them identify the learning and support they need in order to move into their own homes and become independent and responsible adults.

The project offers continued support to care leavers in their own homes encouraging them to maintain and sustain their tenancies by developing a community of support around them. Assistance includes advice about education, employment, training and the young people are taught life skills such as learning to cook a variety of meals, managing budgets through financial training, and help around maintaining their home.

Open day for all taking place at Southam Fire Station this summer

These events are open to all and are a great opportunity to meet local firefighters, learn more about the fire & rescue service and take part in fun family activities.

Southam Fire Station will be holding an event on Saturday 5 August 10 am – 4 pm where the public are welcome to attend the fire station and meet the fire fighters and other staff.
