New Warwickshire Smart Travel Partnership and Travel Assistant Service launches

The travel assistance service, accessed from Warwickshire Smart Travel Partnership organisation’s respective websites, is powered by ‘You. Smart. Thing.’, a travel demand management platform for destinations, venues, and events.

It offers visitors tailor-made, inclusive and sustainable travel routes for some of South Warwickshire’s most popular places of interest. The platform combines accessible, active public transport and driving routes, as well as exclusive parking options (that aren’t available on Google maps).

Cyclists save 6,984 kg of carbon on National Cycle to Work Day 2023

Organised by Cyclescheme, National Cycle to Work Day is the UK’s biggest cycling commuting event. The campaign has been running for 11 years and aims to encourage people all around the country to get on their bikes and get into work one of the best ways possible – on two wheels.

National Cycle to Work Day is an event for everyone, from people who have not been on a bike since their school days to committed cycle commuters. At Warwickshire County Council, an enthusiastic group of staff led the way by cycling to their various places of work.

Staff from across Warwickshire County Council cycled a collective total of around 196 miles, saving the equivalent of approximately 6,984 kg of carbon, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 333 trees. The longest journey was made by Anthony in the Council’s pension team who cycled a round trip of 24 miles.

Open days taking place at Southam and Stratford-upon-Avon Fire Stations this summer

Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service (WFRS) is excited to announce a series of open days taking place at local fire stations in the next couple of weeks.

Southam and Stratford-upon-Avon Fire Stations will both be holding open days where the public are welcome to attend the fire station and meet the firefighters and other staff.

These events are open to all and are a great opportunity to meet local firefighters, learn more about the fire & rescue service and take part in fun family activities.

The open days will be taking place:

• Southam Fire Station – Saturday 5 August, 10 am – 4 pm
• Stratford-upon-Avon Fire Station – Saturday 12 August, 11 am – 3 pm

High praise from customers for Warwickshire County Council’s Registration Service

The Local Authority Registration and Coroner Services Association (LARCSA) recognised the service for “Best Registration Feedback”. The award nomination was submitted as part of LARCSA’s celebrations for National Registrar’s Day, which took place in July 2023. The day celebrates the continued care, professionalism, and compassion that Registrars across the country show when helping people through some of the happiest or hardest times in their lives.

Explore, Read, and Play: Mobile Library to visit Country Parks this summer

The mobile library will be visiting two of Warwickshire’s Country Parks: Kingsbury Water Park and Ryton Pools Country Park, on Monday 14 August. Additionally, a special visit to Ryton Pools Country Park is scheduled for Tuesday 22 August. These events promise an action-packed day of entertainment, education, and outdoor exploration for children and families alike.

The mobile libraries will be at the parks between 10am – 2pm each day, with visitors able to drop in for as long as they like to join this celebration of culture, literature and art.
