Council visits schools for ‘Welcome to Your Vote Week’
Our Elections and Committee Services teams visited local schools as part of the Electoral Commission’s “Welcome to Your Vote Week”, with the theme get informed and get involved.
The sessions with local secondary schools focused on informing students on the electoral voting process, who their councillors are, how they could get involved in the democratic process and why their vote matters.
A referendum was held with all the schools, with students asked to vote ‘Yes’ or `No’ to “would you vote if you had the option to?”
The results of the referendum indicated that out of 406 votes, 78.3% said they would vote, while 19.7% said they would not vote. 2% of ballots were spoilt.
