The Rugby educated 17-year-old creating ‘a whole new world’ for deaf children

But what about those who may not be able to fully enjoy themselves in that world just yet?

We live in a time that is constantly adapting and changing to fit accessibility so that we all have an equal opportunity to enjoy the things we want to. That’s why 17-year-old Mariella Satow, with the help of deaf individuals and volunteer interpreters, spent much of lockdown developing the new free Google Chrome extension, ‘SignUp’, so that deaf children could also experience the joy of films in their childhood.

Support Warwickshire families in need this Christmas

However, the service now needs more volunteers to keep up with demand, particularly over the festive period.

Sarah Dovaston, Service Manager for Empowering Families at NYAS said, “Being a parent has never been easy. At times, it can be lonely, frustrating, and overwhelming, especially if you have limited or no other support networks in place. This can often be compounded by the arrival of the festive season, when that lack of a support network becomes even more pronounced.

Helping Warwickshire residents shop safely this Christmas

Children and young people in Warwickshire to benefit from autism education project

This project will involve working together to co-produce training resources regarding identity, and also training packages for schools to help autistic pupils understand their identity. The project will explore people’s experiences and encourage schools to adapt their environments so that they are inclusive to all. The project is working with parents, carers, children and young people to strengthen relationships and the ways these groups work together to improve learning experiences for Autistic pupils.

Warwickshire and Coventry come together to support 16 Weeks of Action against sexual assault and abuse

The campaign will run until 28th March 2022 and can be found using #16weeksofaction.

Cllr Margaret Bell, Warwickshire County Council, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health said: “There is no place for domestic abuse and sexual violence in Warwickshire and Coventry. We stand with our colleagues in Coventry to help promote the services available to victims and to provide support and guidance throughout the 16 weeks campaign.

Over the course of the 16 weeks, each of the local support services will take a lead on promoting what they do to get messages out to local communities. You will see the messages go out across social media channels as well as council and policing websites.

Still time for applications to new £1million Social Impact Fund

The Warwickshire County Council Social Impact Fund was launched in November and is now open to applications from voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations including town and parish councils. Organisations have until 30 December to submit their bid.

The WSIF has been launched to enable targeted interventions to support Warwickshire’s communities and enable community-based support for those disproportionately impacted by COVID. This may include extending or introducing specialist support; or providing additional community-based support where the effects of COVID are felt more keenly.
