Akira has lived in Kenilworth since 2004 and in the surrounding area for most of her life. She has worked for several years as a game programmer, as well as a web & mixed media developer and as a Learning Technologist. Currently she works as a Senior Lecturer, teaching Digital Media Technology and is very keen on STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) and creative technologies.
She is an ambassador for InnovateHER as well as for Women in Games, volunteering her time to inspire and support young women and girls in exploring a career in creative technologies and in games. She is also a voluntary mentor for Barnardo’s charity, supporting children in times of need. She holds a qualification in Children and Young People’s Mental Health and continues to study to better support young people.
Akira is passionate about education and has worked across the educational sector from primary to Further and Higher education and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher education Academy. She has volunteered her time to support children’s education across the years, from Teaching Assistant to assemblies and workshops.
If she has any free time, Akira likes learning languages and speaks Dutch well, a few other languages not so well and is currently studying Mandarin. She likes to play the guitar, has played the trumpet in the Albert Hall and is learning the piano.
Akira was elected to the Town Council for the first time on the 4th of May and currently serves on the Finance & General Services Committee as well as the Tourism Working Group and is a Trustee of the Kenilworth United Charity.
