Richard is married to Kate, and they have three daughters, each of whom has attended St John’s Primary School and Kenilworth School and 6th Form. He had the privilege of being Kenilworth’s Mayor during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020/21 when he talked endlessly about Kenilworth unique sense of community, creativity and culture.

Richard was born in Warwickshire and has lived in Kenilworth since 1991. He’s had fewer birthdays than any other Councillor but over the years he’s done things with St John’s School Governors, St John’s church, Kenilworth Round Table, Waverley Day Centre, Kenilworth Uyogo Friendship Link and the Patient Participation Group at Abbey Medical Centre. He’s now involved with theKenilworthCentre, the town’s Fairtrade Group and Compassionate Kenilworth (previously known as the COVID-19 Support Kenilworth charity). Richard also created the online ‘Friends of…’ groups for Bates Memorial, Ebourne Rec and St John’s parks as well as for Kenilworth station.

Richard worked for 20 years in financial services, where he learned about the business of counting and creating money. For the past 19 years he’s been working first in the not-for-profit world and latterly in the learning sector, where he’s learned about the business of working with people to help them make communities even better. This work has required travel to all parts of the UK and, very occasionally, to Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.

Outside of work and Council stuff, Richard can sometimes be found on the squash court at dawn. He’s motivated by faith but has little sense of rhythm or timing. He WLTM with anyone who’s also ever been spiritually moved by the writings and sounds of Leonard Cohen.

Richard has been re-elected to the Town Council having previously served since May 2017
